About The Deerfield Land Trust
Founded in 1990, the Deerfield Land Trust has preserved approximately 2000 of acres of land in the town of Deerfield, Massachusetts. Our charter is to preserve the rural character of the Town of Deerfield, keep local agriculture viable and keep urban sprawl at bay.
Since its inception, the Deerfield Land Trust’s primary tool in preserving land has been in utilizing the Massachusetts Agricultural Preservation Restriction (APR) program. This state program purchases development rights on prime farmland, paying the farmer the difference between the value of the land as farmland and the value of the land if it were to be sold for development.
The Deerfield Land Trust is a registered 501-C(3) not-for-profit organization overseen by an all volunteer board of directors. We work very diligently to keep our operating expenses low. We have no full time employees; rather, we utilize the staff of the Franklin Land Trust on a part time basis.
Please help us in our effort to preserve the rural character of our beautiful town. Make a tax deductible contribution to the Deerfield Land Trust. After you do, you’ll enjoy our beautiful views and the taste of our locally grown food just a little bit more. Donations are gratefully accepted and may be sent to us at PO Box 368, Deerfield, MA 01342.
